After Coming Out To Protest With One Leg, See How Much Nigerians Raised For Her Within 2 Hours

The #EndSARS movement keeps unfolding with interesting and soul-touching moments everyday. Even as the protesters keep demonstrating against police brutality and bad governance in the country, lives have also been touched in the process.

Photos of the protests:

The other day we saw how the sum of 2.3 million was raised for an old woman who brought groundnut to sell at the protest ground at Lekki. And two days ago, we saw a little boy who went viral after giving his snacks free of charge to protesters. And when the protesters opted to pay him, he declined the money, and told them that they should continue with the protest so that he can go to school.

Immediately his photos hit cyberspace, philanthropic Nigerians launched a search for him, and promised to offer him scholarship.

Yesterday, I saw a video of how protesters in Abuja were sharing drinks and snacks to police officers on the road, and assuring them that this struggle is also for them. Because part of this struggle is for the police force to be reformed, and for them to be fairly paid. I almost shed a tear when I saw the understanding and show of camaraderie between the officers and the protesters.

And this morning, while surfing through Twitter, I saw the photo of a young lady with just one leg going in front of the brave protesters, and my attention was immediately captured. This young lady had every excuse to stay away from the protest. Her disability would have acted as a perfect alibi, but she didn't consider her condition. She entered the streets with the rest of the protesters to chant for change.

But it seems that coming out for the protests was the risk she needed to take so that her story can change forever. The photo of this young lady touched the hearts of thousands of Nigerians, and a search was immediately launched for.

Her photo was shared on Twitter by Jonathan Odoba Jnr.24409bb6ec7babba65445619a688a2fd?quality=uhq&format=webp&resize=720

Immediately after that, Aproko Doctor retweeted it, and came up with the idea of finding the young lady and rendering some assistance to her. He suggested that a prosthetic leg be procured for her. You know that procuring a prosthetic leg for her would cost money, so efforts were made to raise the money for her.a920927a35141f74bec85be978f9c9bf?quality=uhq&format=webp&resize=720

More findings about the young lady revealed that her name is Jane. She has been unemployed since 2013. No company or organization could employ her because of her condition. So the public reasoned that getting a prosthetic leg for her will increase her chances of landing a job. And a means of donating was immediately set up for her this morning.f6f2b274132b553be149c60102cbce7f?quality=uhq&format=webp&resize=720

Nigerians began to donate for her leg immediately. Within 27 minutes, the sum of N500,200 was raised for her. Below is the screenshot of it.

In 30 minutes, the money rose to N531,700. Though the target had already been met, Nigerians didn't stop donating.c7633bed8b4a766d5904a3d928053c43?quality=uhq&format=webp&resize=720

In one hour, the donations for Jane rose to about 1.5 million naira. 1.5 million naira was raised by 174 people within one hour. Below is the screenshot:7fc0655dba5190985a7510ed38cecc4d?quality=uhq&format=webp&resize=720

In 2 hours, below is the amount that was raised for her, and the money is still growing as at the time of making this article. I can only imagine the amount of money that will be raised for Jane at the end of the day. With the money, she won't even have to go looking for a job again, she will get herself a prosthetic leg, and also set up a good business for herself.083d24b7e0f8d4c9454f164ee9c124d6?quality=uhq&format=webp&resize=720

Truly, Nigerians are really loving people. Even in the midst of crippling hardship, they always make out means to help one another. They are always ready to set their challenges aside just to drag others out of their own delirium. This country is indeed one of the best places in the world, it is just unfortunate that we have not been blessed with good leadership.

Thousands of Nigerians have been reacting to this benevolent gestures that have shown to Jane. Below are some of the reactions from people:

I hope that this love and unity that have been displayed by Nigerians for one another in these past few days will continue to be parts of our daily lives. May we continue to watch out for one another, and render help when and where we can

Please drop some nice words for those that donated for this young lady.
