Three Reasons Why Governor Wike Needs To Apologize To The People Of Oyigbo

 After the alleged killings that happened at Lekki toll gate in Lagos, alot of other strange things have happened in Nigeria, and more might happen if the government make a wrong move in handling the situation.

Recall, after the alleged killings at Lekki toll gate, violent activities started happening in so many other states, angry youths started burning down places, and this same thing happened in Oyigbo, Rivers State.

 

A Police station and a court house was burnt down in Oyigbo by angry youths, and this resulted into a shootout between the police/army and some armed youths tagged as thugs.

Both civilians and policemen lost their lives in the shootout. While this was happening in Oyigbo, there was also heavy violent activities around Mile1, down to oil mill in Port Harcourt.

 

Due to the unrest in the state, the Governor of Rivers state imposed a 24 hours curfew on some areas of Rivers, and Oyigbo is included. Few days back, he lifted the curfew on most of the areas of Rivers state, leaving out Oyigbo local government. According to governor Wike, that's where IPOB members are hiding, and he accused them of masterminding the attacks on police stations, and other places, though some people strongly do not agree with him.

 

He also banned the activities of IPOB in the state. Following the shootings which led to the deaths of soldiers and civilians in the state, he requested that soldiers be deployed to Oyigbo local government area of Rivers State, and ever since then, the people of Oyigbo have been terrorized by the Military who shoots almost nonstop every night.

These are the three reasons why Governor Wike Needs to apologize to the people of Oyigbo

 

1. So many innocent people have been affected by the activities carried out in the area by the Military, businesses are shut down and people are scared to go out in search of their daily bread.

2. It is his duty as a Governor to make sure the people live in peace, but so far, the army have been instigating fear that might soon escalate into something else.

3. Apart from the fear, the army which he allowed into the area is gradually making the area look like it is in a state of emergency, multiple gunshots were released by the military in Oyigbo local Government on the 29th of October 2020, and residents were also seen fleeing the area due to the uncertainties surrounding the actions of the military.

In my humble opinion, Governor Wike should request for the withdrawal of the army from Oyigbo local government area, and apologize to the people of Oyigbo because he would have handled the situation some other way, and tension wouldn't have risen to this level in Oyigbo local government area.
