A member of the House of Representatives, Eze Nwachukwu Eze, representing Ebonyi/Ohaukwu federal constituency and the council chairman of Ohaukwu LGA, Odono Ikechukwu on Sunday condemned the setting ablaze of two (2) vehicles belonging to neighborhood watch security outfit by hoodlums at Umuogudu Akpu Ngbo.
DAILY POST gathered that the hoodlums invaded the residence of the Ohaukwu LGA Neighbourhood Watch commander, Leonard Igwe located at Umuogudu Akpu Ngbo, at about 3 pm, and attempted to also set ablaze his house but were resisted.
Eze expressed sadness and grief over the attack and destruction of valuable properties, adding that: “It is most unfortunate that in this orgy of violence, two vehicles were burnt down.”
He called for the immediate search and arrest of those whose hands were connected to the attack.
He, however, urged the Ebonyi State government led by Governor Francis Nwifuru and the emergency response agencies to provide support and relief materials to the victim, Igwe, who according to him, has been prevented from performing his normal duty as a result of the arson attack.
Reacting, the council chairman of Ohaukwu Local Government Area, Prince Odono Ikechukwu, who spoke to newsmen in Abakaliki, capital of Ebonyi State, condemned in strong terms the attack.
He vowed to partner security agencies, especially the police, the Department of State Services, DSS, and others to ensure that the perpetrators were apprehended soonest.
According to him: “The attack and setting ablaze of the two (2) vehicles of the neighborhood watch security outfit is condemnable.
“The hoodlums, who went to the neighborhood watch commander’s house, also tried to also set ablaze his house but were resisted. They (hoodlums) succeeded in setting ablaze the Sienna bus and his private car.”
Odono vowed to ensure that the hoodlums were fished out from their hideouts.
“We are seriously carrying out an investigation to ensure that the perpetrators are unveiled. We are sure that the hoodlums didn’t come from afar,” he stated.
