Ebonyi State President of Ohaneze Ndigbo, Mr Peter Mbah and the National Youth Leader of Ohaneze Ndigbo, Mr Damian Okeafor are trading blames over the alleged embezzlement of five million naira (N5million) meant for the youths.
It was gathered that the said sum was a donation from the State government to support the activities of Ohanaeze Ndigbo Youth wing, but was allegedly hijacked by some persons.
DAILY POST reports that Okeafor had earlier petitioned the Public Complaints and Anti-corruption Commission, PCACC, Ebonyi State chapter, to probe Mbam on the alleged diversion of the said money.
The petition, which was made available to newsmen in Abakaliki, capital of Ebonyi State, was titled: “Request to probe into the missing fund of the National Youths wing of the Ohaneze Ndigbo in the possession of Peter Mbam.”
It was addressed to the Chairman of the PCACC, urging him to make Mbam to account for the five million naira (N5m) belonging to the National Youth wing of Ohanaeze allegedly in his possession.
But Mbam, who spoke with DAILY POST on Saturday, denied knowledge of such embezzlement, and cautioned Okeafor to shun the attitude of attempting to destroy people’s image and reputation.
Mbam, who disowned Okeafor, said: “I was surprised and very shocked to hear such an allegation.
“In the first place, Damian Okeafor is not part of us and has nothing to do with us here in the State; he belongs to the national body of Ohaneze Ndigbo.
“He has been embroiled in controversy since he was inaugurated as the national youth leader of Ohaneze Ndigbo on 20th August, 2021, and on 26th of September, barely 6 months after his inauguration, he was suspended for embezzlement of funds belonging to the Youths and for incompetence.”
Mbam lamented that he fought to reinstate Okeafor as the national youth leader of Ohaneze Ndigbo, only to be paid back with evil.
