The Oba Benin, Ewuare II, has taken a swipe at the Edo State, Governor, Godwin Obaseki, saying it is good for him to look beyond his office because he will not be there forever.
The monarch made this known during a peace meeting he organised for the leading governorship candidates for the September 19, 2020 election in the state.
The meeting, which held on Wednesday in the Benin palace, had the two leading candidates for the election, Obaseki of the Peoples Democratic Party and the candidate of the All Progressives Congress, Osagie Ize-Iyamu.
The monarch, who spoke against the backdrop of the violence that has attended the campaign for the poll, called for calm.
He said the campaign for the election was the most violent he had witnessed in his lifetime.
He urged Governor Obaseki to look at the bigger picture rather than allowing the political violence to prevail in the state.
He used a former Governor of the state, Chief John Odige-Oyegun, as an example.
He said Odigie-Oyegun, who was also at the meeting, has left office both as governor and former National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress and living life normally.
He said: “It is good for you to look beyond your office because you are not going to be there forever.
