World football governing body FIFA has
handed Argentina legend Diego Maradona a new role as the body wants the
56-year-old to clean corruption from the round leather game popularly
known as football.
Maradona
was known for lots of controversies during his active playing days, as
the World Cup winner has a sketchy past that includes drug binges and
shooting journalists with an air rifle.
The controversial Argentinean however announced his new role with the World football governing body FIFA on his Facebook page.
“Now
it’s official. Finally I can fulfill one of the lifelong dreams which
is to work for a clean and transparent FIFA alongside people who really
love football.
“Thanks to all who have encouraged me to face this new challenge,'' Maradona explained.
FIFA
has been marred in recent years of corruption and bribery with former
president Sepp Blatter undergoing an eight-year ban from the sport.
