Some Cameroonian players might
not forgive themselves for declining invitation to take part at the just
concluded Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Gabon.
Despite
being without many of their key players who gave different reasons as
not to be part of the tournament, Cameroon defeated Egypt to emerge
champions for a record fifth time.
The
indomitable lions came from behind to defeat the pharaohs in the highly
tension soaked final match at the Stade d'Angondje in Gabon.
The pharaohs opened the scoring in the 22nd minute after Mohamed Elneny struck from closed-range.
Cameroon
restored parity in the 59th minute through Nicolas N'Koulou, and as the
game was heading for a penalty shootout, an individual brilliance by
Vincent Aboubakar in the 88th minute ensure the less experienced
Cameroon win the title.
The following
professional Cameroonian players gave different reasons to decline coach
Hugo Broos' invitation and consequently opted out of the tournament.
They will surely not forgive themselves now.
1. Joel Matip - Liverpool defender
2. André Onana - Ajax d’Amsterdam)
3. Guy Roland Ndy Assembe – Nancy
4. Allan Nyom - West Bromwich
5. André Zambo Anguissa - Olympique Marseille
6. Ibrahim Amadou – Lille
7. Maxime Poundje - Bordeaux
