Ahead of the upcoming 2017 Lagos City Marathon, we take a six facts about the Lagos City Marathon which will be the second of its kind in Nigeria.

The race will hold on Saturday, 11th Febuary, 2017 starting p at the front of the National Stadium Surulere opposite Teslim Balogun Stadium through Anthony to Third Mainland Bridge and finishing at the sales office of Eko Atlantic on Ahmadu Bello Way, Victoria Island
1. Last year's winner Abraham Kiptum will race again
Kenya’s Abraham Kiptum who won the competition last year will race once again and he had promised to retain his title.
He has also promised to run a sub 2.10:00

2. Gov. Ambode to establish Fun Parks for City Marathon
In anticipation of the race, Lagos State governor Akinwunmi Ambode is planning establish fun parks Lagosians who cannot make it to the finish line or line the route to cheer the runners an opportunity to be part of the event in a relaxed environment that is fun filled and gives room for bonding.
With less than 11 days to go, the question will be; is it still a possibility?
3. This is the second marathon of its kind in Lagos and Nigeria
This is the second Lagos City Marathon. 2016 hosted the first edition which was the first of its kind in Nigeria. Other marathon races have been mostly national.
4. Most of Lagos will be inaccessible
As was with Lagos last year, most of the City will be inaccessible. The state government has released updates on the list of roads to be closed. The race is expected to end at 6pm.
5. The prize money is the same as last year
Like last year the winner takes $50,000, second place takes $40,000 and third place takes $30,000.
The first Nigerian takes home N1,000,000. Second and third place take home N750,000 and N500,000 respectively.
6. Marathon starts at 7.30 am at the National stadium Surulere
The starting point will be at the front of the National Stadium Surulere opposite Teslim Balogun Stadium.
The finishing point will be at the sales office of Eko Atlantic on Ahmadu Bello Way, Victoria Island
