1. Machu Picchu, Peru

A very famous old city in the mountains of Peru.

It was made by a group of people called the Incas a long time ago.

People didn’t know about it until someone found it in 1911.

2. Petra, Jordan

Known as the “Rose City,” Petra was the capital of the Nabatean Kingdom and flourished as a trading hub in ancient times.

It was abandoned in the 7th century and remained largely forgotten until its rediscovery in the early 19th century.

It was lost for a long time until people found it again in the 1800s.

3. Angkor, Cambodia

Angkor was the capital of the Khmer Empire from the 9th to the 15th centuries.

It was one of the largest preindustrial cities in the world, but eventually declined and was reclaimed by the jungle.

It was lost in the jungle for a long time until people rediscovered it in the 1700s.

Tikal was one of the largest cities of the ancient Maya civilization, with its heyday in the 6th century AD.

A group of houses built by ancient Native Americans on cliffs in Colorado, USA.

It was inhabited from the 6th to the 12th century AD and abandoned for unknown reasons. It was rediscovered in the late 19th century.

8. Great Zimbabwe, Zimbabwe

Great Zimbabwe was the capital of the Kingdom of Zimbabwe, which flourished between the 11th and 15th centuries.

It was abandoned around the 15th century and was largely forgotten until its rediscovery by European explorers in the 19th century.
