The ongoing transformation of the Teslim Balogun Stadium in Surulere is our government's commitment to investing in facilities that nurture talent and bring communities together.
The cladding, roof covering, track replacement, upgrading of the VIP Lounge, players dressing lounge, the pitch, and more at Teslim Balogun Stadium are steps towards providing a world-class sporting arena. This aligns with our vision for Lagos – a city where sports thrive, offering hope and entertainment.
Best wishes to the Super Eagles at the African Nations Cup as they continue to make us proud.
The construction of Teslim Balogun Stadium was started in the mid-1980s before it was abandoned. It was resumed in the 2000s, but still using the original design from the 1980s. It was finally completed in 2007. A lot of the facilities and design of the stadium are outdated. What is happening right now is an upgrade to bring it into the modern era.
For example, only the State Box was covered originally. Now they are converting it into an all-covered stadium.
There were no hospitality suites. Now hospitality suites are being created.
It had no facade, but now a facade is being put in place.
The flood lights were on poles that were outside the stadium, now they will be on the roof.
Basically it was a 1987 type stadium and it is being converted into a 2024 type stadium.
