AMA Foundation’s two-week eye care outreach culminates with life-changing cataract surgeries in Lagos

The AMA Foundation, a leading nonprofit organisation dedicated to improving healthcare access in underserved communities, has successfully concluded its two-week-long eye care outreach program in collaboration with the Lagos State Universal Basic Education Board (LASUBEB).

The program culminated in a two-day cataract surgery event that transformed the lives of many in Lagos State.

Over the course of two weeks, the AMA Foundation, in partnership with Lagos SUBEB, embarked on a comprehensive mission to provide essential eye care services to communities throughout Lagos State. The outreach aimed to address the growing need for eye health services and raise awareness about preventable vision impairments.

The activities during the two-week campaign included:

Free Eye Screenings: A team of dedicated healthcare professionals conducted free eye screenings at multiple locations across Lagos State, reaching thousands of individuals from various communities.

Vision Education Workshops: Educational workshops were organized to educate the public on the importance of regular eye check-ups, eye hygiene, and eye health maintenance.

Distribution of Eyeglasses: Those in need of corrective eyeglasses were provided with quality eyewear, enabling them to see clearly and improve their daily lives.

Cataract Surgery Camp: The highlight of the campaign was a two-day cataract surgery camp held at a state-of-the-art medical facility. Skilled ophthalmologists performed sight-restoring cataract surgeries on eligible patients, greatly enhancing their quality of life.

Abdullahi Musa Bello, Founder of the AMA Foundation, expressed his gratitude to Lagos SUBEB for their invaluable partnership and dedication to the cause.

He stated, “Our mission has always been to make a lasting impact on communities by improving healthcare access, and this outreach program exemplifies our commitment. We are immensely proud of the results achieved and the lives we have positively impacted through this collaborative effort.”

The cataract surgery camp alone saw dozens of successful surgeries performed, and many patients have already reported significant improvements in their vision, allowing them to regain their independence and enjoy a better quality of life.

Speaking on behalf of Lagos SUBEB, Tesileem Amusat, revealed that the outreach was essential for the betterment of teachers across Lagos State. He further expressed gratitude to the AMA Foundation for their commitment to improving lives through healthcare, education and empowerment.

The AMA Foundation remains committed to supporting the communities they serve and will continue to explore opportunities for future collaborations aimed at improving healthcare access for all.
