Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has admitted that he wants full-back Kieran Tierney to stay at the Emirates amid his struggles at the club.
Arteta said that Tierney is in his plans for next season.
Tierney has fallen behind teammate Oleksandr Zinchenko in Arteta’s pecking order of defenders since the latter’s arrival from Manchester City last summer.
The Scot made only 36 appearances in all competitions for Arsenal in the 2022-2023 campaign.
He had been tipped to leave Arsenal amid interest from Newcastle United and Aston Villa.
Asked if Tierney is in his plans for next season, Arteta said, as quoted by The Sun UK ahead of Arsenal’s pre-season friendly tie with Barcelona on Thursday: “He is. He is obviously in our plans.
“He came on and did really good in pre-season, not for the first, and this is what we want.
“To increase the level of competition in the team and raise the level of each individual. That is going to be a huge benefit for the team to get to another level.”
