Tragedy lurks in Eha-Amufu, Isi-Uzo Local Government Area of Enugu State as residents and workers of the Federal College of Education cross a distressed bridge, the only route to the institution and the larger town.
In a video obtained by DAILY POST, workers and other road users were seen crossing the distressed bridge that has been ripped off as result of decay and old age.
Residents, workers and other road users had in the past cried out for the construction of the bridge but their cries never attracted any attention.
The bridge is now in its most sorry state, fueling fears of imminent tragedy.
Despite the fact that Eha-Amufu plays host to a Federal institution, it has suffered age long neglect by successive governments, including the State and the Federal Government.
The town is renowned for lack of access roads and other essential infrastructures.
A resident of the town, Mr Chidenu Okafor told DAILY POST that, “it is traumatizing to us that Eha-Amufu is usually cut off from the rest parts of the State during peak of rain season, which is a yearly occurrence.
“As if these were not enough, the residents of the town had also come under series of gruesome attacks by Fulani herdsmen on several occasions.
“However, the trend has since calmed a bit after the former Governor of the State, Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi stepped up some security measures.”
He called on the Federal Government to make an emergency intervention on the bridge.
“This is necessary to avert a national calamity. The government should not wait for people to get drowned before something urgent is done here,” he stated.
