Insecurity: Gov Mutfwang calls for calm in Plateau, begs residents to sheath their swords

Following the recent security challenges that have bedevilled communities in Mangu LGA of Plateau State, Governor Caleb Mutfwang has called on citizens to exhibit the spirit of calmness, tolerance and forgiveness over the unfortunate incidents.

He also urged citizens to put behind issues that divide them as a people and work with one accord to preserve their heritage.

DAILY POST recalls that scores have been killed in the councils as a result of attacks in some communities.

Recall also that a 24-hour curfew was imposed on the council by the Management Committee chairman to forestall further degeneration of the situation.

Mutfwang through his Director of Press and Public Affairs, Gyang Bere, reiterated the government’s determination to build a new and united Plateau, where all shades of opinion from law-abiding citizens would be accommodated for the safety and progress of the State.

The Governor implored religious, traditional and community leaders, “to commence with immediate effect, the process of confidence building among citizens who are affected by the sad events in order to strengthen inter-communal relations.

According to him, “Government will not tolerate activities of crisis merchants who for selfish reasons, are bent on fomenting trouble and causing disaffection among peace-loving citizens.

“I therefore urge security personnel not to treat with kid gloves, anyone or group of persons who are identified as culprits or sponsors of the current security challenges confronting our dear State.

While sympathizing with families of victims of the attacks who were either killed or injured, Mutfwang prayed for God’s comfort and quick recovery.

“The time is now for us to put behind issues that divide us as Plateau citizens and work with one accord to preserve our heritage”.
