Arsenal legend, Paul Merson, has revealed his only worry for the Gunners amid their Premier League title race with Manchester City this season.
Merson also urged Arsenal not to take the foot off the paddle in the Premier League title race this term despite having an eight-point lead over second-placed Man City, who have a game in hand.
According to him, Pep Guardiola’s side have often rallied in the points table with consecutive wins.
Speaking to Sky Sports before the kick-off of Arsenal’s Premier League 0-0 draw with Newcastle United on Tuesday, Merson said, “Only time will tell. I mean the team that are chasing them down at the moment – Manchester City – have reeled off twelve wins on the trot enough times and that’s the problem. Manchester City are relentless.”
He continued: “They are only a couple of points behind what they were I think last season, and they still ended up with 90-odd points, so if anybody is going to go and reel off twelve [wins in a row], it is them. Arsenal have just got to keep on winning, keep on winning. That is a lot of points and I don’t care what anybody says.”
“It’s hard. [Even if Arsenal went] ten points clear, we are still sitting here thinking if they go on and win the league, then, wow, because it’s Manchester City. I have seen it too many times. They reel off twelve wins on the trot, thirteen wins, fourteen wins on the trot. Not like win five, draw one, then win five, they reel them off and it doesn’t matter who they play. That is my only worry.”
