The International Organization for Relief, Welfare and Development (IORWD) in partnership with Edushine Support Foundation an NGO, in conjunction with Pharmacist Abdulkareem Asuku Youth Empowerment Foundation (PAAYEF) has begun free surgery for over 200 people who have eye problems troubled with sight in Kogi State.
The NGO’s who sourced the medical experts from Muslim World League is doing the surgery at the Kogi State Specialist Hospital Lokoja.
Recall that, the organization had conducted free eye screening and medication for over 2000 person’s across the three Senatorial Districts of the State.
According to the organizers, the target beneficiaries are 2500 residents, while free cataract surgery is expected to be done for 500 person’s.
The foundation explained that, before the surgery, screening were conducted at different venues across the state namely, Ankpa General Hospital, Idah Zonal Hospital, Kabba General Hospital
Tagged an eye camp in Lokoja Kogi State, the founder of Edushine Support foundation Dr Safiya Musa said she remains committed to giving back to the society.
Musa emphasized the importance of eyes as the light of the body and an integral part of human existence which deserves attention.
She warned that a recent report on prevalence of blindness, globally, has further strengthened the urgent need to take care of the eyes.
Dr Musa said that the programme has mapped out the vulnerable rural dwellers with little or no exposure to facilities and lack of finance to benefit.
Acknowledging the expanse nature of the state however, the focal person of PAAYEF Hon. Mimi Sandra said that the eye Care will place premium on the three Senatorial Districts with a staggering number of cataract patients that need eye surgery in each of the local governments.
Hon. Sandra explained that the eye operations is being carried out by qualified ophthalmologists sourced from Muslim World League.
Beneficiaries across the three Senatorial Districts all expressed their appreciation to the body for enabling them to regain their sights which they described as priceless.
A total of 21 medical team from Muslim World League with support of some staff from Kogi State Specialist Hospital Lokoja where the surgery is been conducted.
