The Zamfara State Council of the Trade Union Congress (TUC) has elected new leaders to handle the affairs of the congress for the next four years.
The election took place on Monday in Gusau, the State capital, saying that the election was peaceful as there was adequate security.
The new executive members were elected unopposed following a consensus agreement between the delegates.
DAILY POST reports that Saidu Mudi retained his position as the Chairman of the Congress for the second term during the state Delegates Conference.
Meanwhile, the state Head of Service, Kabiru Mohammed Gyari who was represented by his permanent secretary, Malam Yakubu Sani Haidara at the event said the government was committed to supporting labour unions to succeed.
“Recently, the state government approved the Thirty Thousand Naira minimum wage for the state civil servants to address some of their socio-economic challenges”, he said.
Earlier speaking, the National President of the TUC, Festus Osifo who was represented by the Deputy Secretary General of the Council, Hassan Salihu Anka demanded from the state government the provision of befitting office accommodation for the TUC.
“This is to enable the state council work effectively and efficiently with a new initiative of modernizing the congress nationwide”
Speaking earlier also, the State chairman of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), Sani Halliru said the centres will continue to work in synergy to fight for workers’ rights and ensure their welfare.
Haliru described the re-elected chairman, Saidu Mudi as an agile and strategic unionist who leads by example.
In his acceptance speech, the re-elected chairman of the TUC, Mudi assured of moving Zamfara TUC to greater heights, capacity building, the welfare of members and assuring that the new TUC will be on the front banner.
He called on the TUC members to give the new leaders the maximum support to move the Congress forward
