Nile University marks 10th convocation, installs Shehu of Borno as Chancellor

 

In a ceremony full of pomp, Nile University of Nigeria held its 10th convocation where 73 graduates bagged first-class degrees, and 161 awarded second-class upper division.

One hundred eighty-two students graduated with second-class lower division and five third-class graduates were recorded.

The investiture of the Shehu of Borno, HRH Abubakar Ibn Garbai El-Kanemi CFR, as Nile University’s Chancellor, added colour to the event.

Governor Babagana Zulum and Executive Secretary, National Universities Commission (NUC), Prof. Abubakar Adamu Rasheed were special guests of honour.

The respected traditional leader commended the Nile University management, saying they created an environment where students are equipped with skills to compete with their contemporaries.

HRH El-Kanemi told the graduating students that unity, progress, and peace should be their watchwords as they step into society.

The Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Dilli Dogo said Nile University started in 2009 with 34 undergraduates but presently has over 6,000 undergraduate and postgraduate students.

Dogo noted that there were adequate facilities and infrastructure to accommodate and cater to the needs of every student.

The institution is affiliated with Honoris United Universities, the first and largest pan-African private higher education network with 15 institutions across 10 African countries.

Dogo added that Nile University is positioned to provide an impactful education for its graduates to enable them to be impactful and productive in society.

The convocation witnessed the presentation of awards to the overall best graduating students.

Emmanuel Obayemi, an accounting graduate with a CGPA of 5.0, received a 100% scholarship from Nile University to pursue a postgraduate degree; N500,000 from Providus Bank, N100,000 from Mouka Foam and N100,000 from Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA).

Precious Okon, a Petroleum & Gas Engineering graduate with a CGPA of 5.0, also received a 100% scholarship from Nile University to pursue a postgraduate degree, N500,000 from Allison Rich and N100,000 from Mouka Foam.

Habibah Taiwo, a Mass Communication graduate with a CGPA of 4.99, received a 100% scholarship from Nile University to pursue a postgraduate degree, N500,000 from Media Seal, and N100,000 from Mouka Foam.

Mercy Egwakhide, an Economics graduate with a CGPA of 4.97, received a 100% scholarship from Nile University to pursue a postgraduate degree and N400,000 from SBI Stagwell.

Prof. Rasheed, represented by Deputy Executive Secretary, Mr. Chris Maiyaki, advised universities to ensure that academic and non-academic staff master the technology and techniques of virtual interactions consistent with the minimum academic standards prescribed by the NUC.

The Executive Secretary enjoined the graduates to use what they have learnt to contribute to nation-building.
