Construct pedestrian bridges, avoid more deaths on Lagos-Ibadan expressway – Akande-Sadipe to FG

A member of the House of Representatives, Tolulope Akande-Sadipe has advised the federal government to without wasting time, construct pedestrian bridges on the Lagos-Ibadan expressway.

Akande-Sadipe who represents Oluyole Federal Constituency made this disclosure on Friday.

DAILY POST gathered that some deaths have been recorded on the expressway in the last few weeks.

The Lagos-Ibadan expressway spread across Oyo, Ogun and Lagos states.

Akande-Sadipe, a member of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) has, however, advised the federal government through the federal ministry of works to construct pedestrian bridges.

She said this is necessary to avoid more deaths on the road.

Akande-Sadipe added that the ongoing construction of the Lagos-Ibadan expressway does not make any arrangements for pedestrian bridges despite the safety implications.

She opined that the ongoing construction on the expressway has become a potential death trap.

Akande-Sadipe said she has earlier submitted a copy of the petition from Concerned Youth for Welfarism before the house at plenary on Wednesday.

She noted that to save lives and improve the economic interactions of the people, the Federal Government must urgently construct pedestrian bridges at five locations on the expressway.

She maintained that the need to construct pedestrian bridges was necessary to avoid future deaths on the expressway.

Akande-Sadipe said, “I am convinced that there is a need to construct pedestrian bridges along this expressway to save lives, reduce the sufferings of the people, improve economic interactions from both sides of the expressway and so on.

“The ongoing construction of Lagos –Ibadan expressway does not make any arrangement for pedestrian bridges despite the safety implications”.
