Senior NSCDC officer allegedly in trouble after rescuing abducted victims in Kwara

A senior officer of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defense Corps, NSCDC, in Kwara State, Mr A. Yusuf, has been suspended after the rescue operation of some abducted victims in a recent incident in Ilorin, the state capital.

Yusuf led the operatives of the anti-illegal mining unit of the corps to rescue three persons, including a woman, Mrs Abdullateef, who were abducted in a Keke Napep while heading to Lanre-Gada from the Oja-Oba area in the Ilorin metropolis on November 9, 2022, at about 7 p.m.

Yusuf, however, got into trouble despite the feat following a video clip of the rescue operation, which went viral allegedly without the approval of the state Commandant of the defence corps.

In the video clip, the woman among the three victims could be heard narrating how she fell into the hands of the kidnappers in the Keke Napep with the officer who rescued her standing by her side.

The Commandant ordered the officer’s suspension, according to impeccable sources in the command who confided in our correspondent in Ilorin on Tuesday.

DAILY POST gathered that the woman put a distress call to some people, informing them about her ordeal while trapped in the Keke Napep.

The driver had complained that he would be diverting to another route due to a traffic hold-up on the normal route.

They incidentally landed in a strange bushy area where they were subjected to inhuman torture at the hands of the kidnappers, according to the woman’s account.

Luckily, the distress call worked as operatives of the defence corps were alerted, which led to the rescue of the victims.

The operatives tracked the kidnappers’ hideout and rescued the three victims, including the woman. However, the culprits escaped, and one unregistered new motorcycle used for their operations was recovered at their den.

Sources at the Command of the defence corps in Ilorin informed our correspondent that the troubled officer breached protocol by carrying out the social media publicity of the rescue operation without the consent of the commandant, hence his suspension.
