The governorship candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Zamfara State, Dr. Ahmad Hashim has called on the State to as a matter of urgency reopen the skills acquisition programs, initially shut down, for the development of youths in the State.
Hashim disclosed this in an exclusive interview with DAILY POST at the State Secretariat of the party in Gusau, pointing out that most of the crimes in the state are perpetrated by the youths who have no means of livelihood.
“It is very clear that 90 percent of the crimes in the State are being perpetrated by these unemployed youths and that the State government needs to do something about that”, he added.
He, however, advised the State government to reopen the skills acquisition centres across the state to reduce the escalation of crimes in the State.
“Most of the people roaming in the streets of the State are the young ones that are supposed to be in the schools but they are doing nothing because they have no means of livelihood.
“I want to remind the State government that I will be constantly holding press briefings to make the State government sit up because we are also indigenes of Zamfara State and we are aware of these political impasses”
“Go to the State Ministry of Women and Children Affairs here in Gusau, the State capital, and you will discover that nothing is happening there, everywhere is just like a graveyard, even the orphans are in every street begging for alms”
“Is that how we suppose to continue, go to the southern part of the country you will discover that more than 90 percent of the beggars are northerners but we have a lot of ballooners in the north”
Hashim advised the State government to look inwards and correct the many political impasses that have been hindering the economy and development of the State.
” But we as opposition parties will continue to put pressures until things return to normalcy because this is a kangaroo political living in a democratic setup”
