The All Progressives Congress (APC) has received knocks in Taraba State after its presidential candidate, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, named former Borno State Governor, Kashim Shettima, as his running mate. Tinubu is a Muslim from the South West while Shettima is also a Muslim but from the North.

The Christian Association of Nigeria, Taraba chapter, has openly condemned the Muslim-Muslim ticket, saying it would ensure its members do not vote for the pair.

The state body of the association, led by its chairman, Isaiah Magaji Jirapye, said the Muslim-Muslim ticket is capable of causing disunity among religious groups in the country.

Frowning at the APC’s decision, CAN, he said has resolved not to be part of such action, stating, “We cannot vote for any candidate who is failing even at the early stage”.
He said the association does not want a religious crisis in Nigeria.

“We are peace-loving people and we would continue to embrace peace and go against whoever that has portrayed to be against the peace between religious groups in the country,” he added.

“Tinubu’s action is proof that he doesn’t want the peace of this country and is a religious bigot who has been hiding his face in a certain cover but God has decided to expose him.”

“Asiwaju’s Muslim/Muslim ticket decision is an idea to tell the entire world that there are no Christians in Nigeria, and is an idea that is coming to divide the country so, we would not allow it see the lights of the day.”

Similarly, a chieftain of the party, who did not want his mentioned for fear of being accused of anti-party activities, told DAILY POST that the decision may truncate the party’s dream of emerging victorious in the state. He urged Tinubu to return to the drawing board if the party wants to make any meaningful impact in the 2023 polls.
