A alleged rapist on trial at the Samuel Ilori Magistrate's Court in Lagos State's Agege district has eluded capture. The defendant was arraigned on Wednesday for allegedly raping a teenager, according to Newsnaira Media.
His remand in prison was authorized by the court, according to reports.
The suspect allegedly escaped the courthouse while being processed for detention.
Warders were claimed to have failed in their attempts to apprehend him.
"The suspect was brought to court by the police and he was remanded," a reliable source claimed. When it was determined that he had not been properly processed, he was transported to a holding cell by the police. While the cops and warders worked out the details, he took advantage of the opportunity to climb into a car and scale the court fence before fleeing."
Our correspondent corroborated the occurrence with a local dealer who spoke on the condition of anonymity.
"I was present when the incident happened yesterday (Wednesday)," she stated. I noticed security personnel and others on the lookout for the fugitive suspect. He couldn't have climbed over Guinness' fence because it's high and topped with barbed wire. Furthermore, they have a large and spacious compound where an intruder can quickly be detected."
Adekunle Ajisebutu, a spokesman for the Lagos State Police Command, said he couldn't confirm the occurrence.
A top officer verified the occurrence, saying that efforts were being made to apprehend the fleeing culprit.
