The Minister of Defence, retired Maj.-Gen. Bashir Magashi, has commended the troops of Operation Lafiya Dole combating insurgents in the north-eastern part of the country, saying that President Muhammadu Buhari appreciates their performance. Magashi made the commendation on Sunday while addressing the troops at the headquarters of the Theatre Command in Maiduguri.
“Let me begin by thanking you all with the work you have been doing.
“The job you have been doing is highly appreciated by our Commander in Chief of the Armed forces, President Muhammadu Buhari and he said we should come here and talk to you to continue with the effort,” Magashi said.
The minister who noted the accidents and misplaced of lives by using a few employees inside the course of the project, assured them that their losses could no longer be in vain.
He found that Nigerian army has outstanding itself in numerous operations internationally and that of the insurgency might no longer be unique.
“You are doing all your exceptional and we realize that.
“You have already been baptised, all you need to do is to discover the enemy and convey him to his knees.
“We have the sources, the equipment to improve your popular and schooling on the way to try this appropriate activity.
“We will maintain to enhance on your welfare and allowances and all what is due to you.
“Very quickly we can launched into recruitment of other soldiers and officials in order that we are able to improve the manpower of our military.
“Your commanders will short you on in addition details of what we mentioned with them,” Magashi said.
The defence minister who also spoke to newsmen on his visit to evaluate the fighting spirit of the troops, entreated journalists to be patriotic in reporting the army.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reviews that the minister’s entourage blanketed the Chief of Defence Staff, Gen. Lucky Irabor; Chief of Army Staff, Lt.-Gen. Ibrahim Attahiru and Chief of the Air Staff, Air Marshal Ishiaka Amao.
