FIFA 'Disapproves' Of European Super League Plans

 

FIFA have released a statement after the announcement of the Super League formation, expressing its ‘disapproval’, but also urging ‘calm, constructive and balanced dialogue for the good of the game.’ The 12 breakaway clubs - Milan, Arsenal, Atletico Madrid, Chelsea, Barcelona, Inter, Juventus, Liverpool, Manchester City, Manchester United, Real Madrid and Tottenham Hotspur – released a joint statement announcing the formation of the European Super League.

While UEFA have been damning in their reaction, threatening sanctions and lawsuits against the clubs involved, FIFA are trying to be more of a peacemaker.

“In view of several media requests and as already stated numerous times, FIFA desires to make clear that it stands firm in favour of cohesion in football and an equitable redistribution version that may assist broaden football as a recreation, especially at global stage, because the improvement of global soccer is the number one mission of FIFA,” read their declaration.

“In our view, and according without statutes, any football competition, whether or not national, regional or global, need to constantly reflect the core principles of cohesion, inclusivity, integrity and equitable monetary redistribution. Moreover, the governing our bodies of football should employ all lawful, sporting and diplomatic way to ensure this remains the case. Against this heritage, FIFA can only express its disapproval to a “closed European breakaway league” outside of the worldwide soccer systems and no longer respecting the aforementioned principles.

“FIFA constantly stands for harmony in global football and calls on all events worried in heated discussions to engage in calm, constructive and balanced communicate for the best of the game and within the spirit of cohesion and truthful play.
