Godfrey Onyeama, the minister of foreign affairs, says the landlord of the building where the Nigerian embassy in Hungary is placed is threatening to evict the embassy.

Onyeama was speakme at the same time as protecting the ministry’s 2021 price range on the residence of representatives in Abuja on Tuesday.

The minister said one of the challenges the ministry is going through is the motion of officials, ambassadors, and their families.

He explained that the ministry wishes N1.6 billion to move ambassadors and pay officials N3.7 billion, making a complete of N5.3 billion for the whole motion.

The minister said there may be a need to deal with the inadequate overhead budgetary provisions to the missions, that is ensuing in a whole lot of debt for energy and rent.

“Just on Monday, the ambassador in Hungary called to say they're going to throw them out from the chancery building. That the owner is coming and that they do now not have the cash to pay,” NAN quoted him to have stated.

“And we get that from a number of missions internationally and that is not a sustainable manner of strolling foreign carrier.

“Then this change fee differential with the CBN is virtually some thing we need to cope with as soon as and for all.

“It isn't so clean, all of these things are computed in naira and all of the payments overseas are in greenbacks and as soon as the trade rate is changed, it in no way goes the alternative manner, it constantly goes up, it by no means comes down vis-a-vis the greenback. This means instantaneous shortfall for all our missions.”

Onyeama said the federal authorities is planning to lessen the variety of global businesses Nigeria belongs to because of a lack of budget.

“We are owing a lot, and within the federal govt council (FEC), there is a system to rationalise and cut down on the global organisations we belong to,” he stated.

“This is due to the fact we're simply owing monies left and right and it isn't even true for the picture of the u . S ..

“A lot of our missions are eyesores and it's miles only a big embarrassment to the u . S . That we can have missions in such horrible situations.

“We were receiving letters from the country wide assembly forwarding to us diverse claims and judgement and asking us to pay them.

“We have a large undertaking with clothing allowances, as , all officers in our missions from grade degree 7 and above are entitled to $2,500 apparel allowance in line with annum.

“In the 2021 budget, about 1,312 officials could be watching for the charge of those allowances and if you take at the CBN authentic rate, we are searching at N1.2 billion.

“What we have available is N762 million for that, to able to pay the apparel allowances, we nevertheless want a further sum of N500 million.”

In July, Onyeama said the federal government is considering a review of embassy operations across the world.
