Hours after the chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Mahmood Yakubu, handed over to Air Vice Marshall Ahmed Mu’azu (retd.), a national commissioner of the commission, Abubakar Nahuche, has resigned.
Legit.ng reports that the news of Nahuche's resignation was confirmed by the commission on Monday, November 9.
Festus Okoye, the INEC national commissioner and chairman (Information and Voter Education Committee), confirmed the resignation in a message.

According to the report, his reasons for resigning were personal. His resignation has been accepted by the president who expressed gratitude to him for his services.
Nahuche was not the only one who tendered his resignation as five national commissioners also did same during the handover ceremony.
They included Hajiya Amina Zakari, Prof. Antonia Taiye Okoosi-Simbine, Alhaji Baba Shettima Arfo, Dr. Mohammed Mustafa Lecky, and Prince Adedeji Solomon Soyebi.
Meanwhile, Legit.ng had previously reported that until he is confirmed by the Nigerian Senate, Professor Yakubu, the INEC chairman, would cease to be in charge of the body.
It was reported that he stepped aside temporarily after handing over leadership of the commission to Mu’azu.
Yakubu has been reappointed by President Muhammadu Buhari for another tenure after the first one expired.
In another report, INEC said it could not probe allegation of certificate forgery against Governor Godwin Obaseki.
The Action Democratic Party (APD) had claimed that Governor Obaseki forged his University of Ibadan certificate before he was declared as the winner of the last gubernatorial poll in Edo and therefore, called on INEC to investigate the allegation.
The electoral body said that it cannot delve into such issues because it has no court order to that effect and that this is beyond the limits of its official responsibilities.
