No Time To Die Release Date Delayed Five Months To April 2021

Daniel Craig's final appearance as James Bond won't come as soon as expected, as No Time To Die has been delayed again, this time to 2021. Once Craig was finally convinced to return to play Bond for the fifth time, No Time To Die became a hotly anticipated film for many. The movie was originally scheduled to be released in late 2019 but was pushed to early 2020 after some director changeover, which ended with Cary Joji Fukunaga directing the film.

It was originally set to be in theaters in April, but it was announced in March that it had been delayed until November 2020. This delay was done with the hope that COVID-19 wouldn't be as pressing of an issue over six months later. However, theaters are not doing well and big fall 2020 movies like Black Widow have been delayed until 2021. For a while, No Time To Die seemed poised to tempt fate and release in November anyway, but that won't happen anymore.

It was officially announced today by MGM, Eon Productions, and Universal that No Time To Die will not be released on November 12 in the UK or November 20 in America. The movie has been delayed five months and will hit theaters on April 2, 2021 worldwide.

The decision to delay No Time To Die to 2021 is likely the smart move, although it is somewhat strange given the recent marketing push the film has received. A recently released poster kept the November 2020 release date on it, and the studios have continued to pump out No Time To Die content with the music video for Billie Eilish's theme song. There was also the recent announcement of a No Time To Die podcast that features exclusive interviews with the cast and creative team. All of this was building towards a November release and the momentum will have to be restarted next year now.

In the big picture, No Time To Die's delay is also a huge blow to movie theaters. After re-opening for Christopher Nolan's Tenet and a fall lineup that included Wonder Woman 1984, Black Widow, No Time To Die, and much more, theaters have struggled. Black Widow and No Time To Die both have moved to spring 2021, with Wonder Woman 1984 barely holding on to a 2020 release. Theaters are reportedly in worse shape now after reopening than if they had stayed closed, and their fortunes won't turn around without new content to show. With a jam-packed 2021 movie slate only growing with the addition of No Time To Die, hopefully theaters will still be around.
