After The Massacre At Lekki TollGate Last Night, See What Sanwo-Olu Said Today About The Shooting

The night of October 20th, 2020 is a night we will never forget in the history of Nigeria. It will forever go down history lane as the night the government waged war against its own citizens. Last night, Nigerians all over the country and in the diaspora mourned and shed tears for those unfortunate ones who were caught by the bullets of some armed men.

I watched the videos which were streamed live last night, and I couldn't control the flow of tears. Sleep was very far from me, and the night seemed very long. I saw the protesters sitting on the ground and chanting "End SARS! End SARS! End SARS!" And suddenly, some soldiers appeared on the scene and shot sporadically at them

At the moment, the number of dead victims cannot be ascertained, and it is advisable not to give out unconfirmed figures in order not to mislead the public or cause panic. But reports that filtered in from some of the protesters that were there live at Lekki had it that the soldiers left with some of the dead bodies they gunned down. Words from the ambulance operators had it that the soldiers refused them access to go and attend to the injured ones.

The most heartbreaking scene was the young man who died with the flag of Nigeria with him. He probably thought that holding the national flag would save him from the attack of the soldiers, as it is often said that it is treasonous for a soldier to shoot at a citizen that is holding the national flag. But last night, all that didn't matter. All decorum was thrown to the air, as the soldiers went on a killing spree. Since last night, the photo of that dead young man with the national flag has become the profile photo of millions of Nigerians across the country.

Since last night, Nigerians have been pointing accusing fingers at some politicians, accusing them of being the masterminds of the attack. It is in that vein that Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu came out publicly today to clear his name and exonerate himself of the Lekki massacre.

This morning, while reacting to the shootings, Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu said that he has no hands in the Lekki massacre.

While talking about the mastermind behind the attack on the peaceful protesters, he said that the forces beyond the state's control are behind the Lekki shootings.

Speaking further, he said that this is the toughest night in our lives, as forces behind the state's control have moved into the state to make dark notes in the history of the state, but that we will overcome it and emerge stronger.

He made the statement during his visits to the victims of the attack in several hospitals at Lekki. He said that it took him this long to make a statement about the attack, because he had to prioritize the welfare of this unfortunate incident.

Talking about the number of victims of the attack, he said that there are 10 victims at the General Hospital, 11 at Reddington, and 4 at Vidic. He said that 3 patients have been discharged, and that he will continue to monitor the progress of others and make sure that they are properly taken care of.

He assured the public that he will work with the federal government to ensure that he gets to the root of this matter, and also stabilize all security operations in the state to protect the lives of the citizens in the state.

Well, the governor has made it clear that the state government has no hands in the massacre at Lekki, and has promised to get to the bottom of the issue and expose the masterminds behind the attack. Let's continue to pray that God will bring those behind the shootings to book. The lives of those innocent citizens that were killed last night will not be in vain.
