NANS urges Fed Govt, ASUU to arrange
The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) has said it underpins the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) in its dealings with Federal Government in regards to the continuous strike.
NANS President Danielson Akpan revealed to The Nation that ASUU left on an uncertain strike not just due to the Integrated Payroll and Personnel Information System (IPPIS) issue, but since government had not satisfied different arrangements reached with ASUU.
"We can't be against ASUU in light of the fact that we have asked government to get together with the arrangements came to with them. We followed up and had our influence, however government didn't consent. Truth be told, it isn't just ASUU that is protesting, COEASU is protesting as well," Akpan said.
Penultimate weekend, ASUU said the strike, which has been on since March, would proceed until government fulfills its needs.
Its President, Prof. Biodun Ogunyemi, said the association needs the Federal Government to actualize the requirements appraisal directed in 2012 the country over colleges.
On fights by understudies with respect to re-opening of schools, Akpan noticed that such would proceed if nothing completes.
"Understudies need to dissent. Obviously, a greater one is coming. Someone called me and requested that I pick a date so we can close down all over the place," he said.
