4 Men Remanded For Theft In Lagos

An Ikeja Magistrates’ Court on Friday ordered that four applicants who allegedly robbed a shop owner of N2.5 million at gun-point be remanded in prison, pending legal advice.
The police charged Idowu Taofeek, 36; Sodiq Alada, 22; Rasake Isah, 37; and Segun Ojo, 26, with conspiracy and armed robbery.
Chief Magistrate M.I. Dan-Oni, who did not take the pleas of the defendants, ordered that they be kept at the Kirikiri Prisons, Lagos, pending advice from the state Directorate of Public Prosecutions (DPP).
She directed the police to send back the case file to the DPP.
Dan-Oni adjourned the case until August 14 for mention.
Earlier, the Prosecution Counsel, Insp. Victor Eruada told the court that the defendants committed the offence with others still at large on March 11, at Raji Rasaki Akinola St., Aboru, Iyana-ipaja in Lagos.
Eruada alleged that the defendants entered the shop of the complainant, Mr Uzorchukwu Okwudoro, and stole N2.5 million cash and a phone valued at N35,000.
He claimed that the defendants were armed with sophisticated guns, axes and cutlasses.
The offence, he said, contravened the provisions of sections 411 and 297 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that armed robbery attracts death sentence.
