Speaker of the House of Representatives, Femi Gbajabiamila and the Governor of Lagos state, Babajide Sanwo-Olu remarkably share some interesting things together. Sharing same political party might not be that striking.
However, both men have quite a few other notable things in common.
Sanwo-Olu briefly attended Government Demonstration School, Gbaja Surulere. Interestingly, this is an area named after the popular Gbajabiamila family which the Speaker hails from.
Here are 5 other things Gbajabiamila and Sanwo-Olu share
They Are Birthday Buddies
The 25th of June will be a well-celebrated date in the next four years. It is the birthday of the governor of Lagos state and the Speaker of the House of Representatives.
Sanwo-Olu was born on the 25th of June, 1965. Similarly, Gbajabiamila was born on the same date, but in 1962.
Coincidentally, both men will be expected to paint the day red in subsequent years.
Both Men Are UNILAG Alumni
The University of Lagos is famous for producing great Nigerians. Many of them have gone ahead to distinguish themselves in the public and the private sector.
In fact, in its alumni roll call, a number of serving governors can be found. They include Emeka Ihedioha of Imo state, Seyi Makinde Oyo state and Adegboyega Oyetola of Osun state.
Interestingly, Lagos Governor Sanwo-Olu is also an alumnus.
This is one more thing binding both men.
Sanwo-Olu and Gbajabiamila are Akokites, as UNILAG alumni are fondly referred to. The former studied Survey and Geo-Information while the latter studied Law.
Same Political Godfather
The emergence of Sanwo-Olu and Gbajabiamila as Governor and Speaker respectively is down to the support of their godfather, Bola Tinubu.
Both men share the same godfather who has been their political benefactor for the past 16 years.
It is widely believed that Sanwo-Olu and Gbajabiamila represent the political interest of the former Governor of Lagos state, both in the state and at the federal level.
Year Of Entering Public Service
Gbajabiamila and Sanwo-Olu entered public service the same year.
Sanwo-Olu was appointed in 2003 as Special Adviser on Corporate Matters to the then-deputy governor of Lagos State, Femi Pedro.
Gbajabiamila also had his first taste of public office in 2003. He was elected into the House of Representatives to represent Surulere Federal constituency.
Although Sanwo-Olu has been in and out of public office, Gbajabiamila has been in office for 16 uninterrupted years. But these Tinubu boys are of the same class.
They are, however, junior to the 1999 class of Vice President, Yemi Osinbajo; Super Minister and former Lagos Governor, Babatunde Fashola, Lai Muhammed and Rauf Aregbesola.
2019 Is A Watershed Year For Both Men
2019 is a remarkable year for the two politicians. For Sanwo-Olu, a sitting governor from his party was displaced for him to emerge as the governor of the most populous state in the country.
For Gbajabiamila, his aspiration for the position of speakership was actualized in 2019.
2015 would have been the crowning year for Gbajabiamila to ascend the peak of his legislative career.
However, it appeared Providence wanted him to wait for his birthday mate. Fate has certainly created several occurrences pointing to an intertwined destiny for both men.
The End!!!
