24th October 2018 • No Comments Village Head, Several Others Killed As Boko Haram Strikes Near Chibok

Boko Haram insurgents killed a village head and some people at a village near Chibok in Borno State, locals and vigilantes said yesterday.

Sources say the Boko Haram jihadists, some in trucks and others on motor bikes descended on Mifah village, about seven kilometres from Chibok, the famous town in Southern Borno where 264 girls were abducted in April, 2014.
“The terrorists numbering over 50 sneaked into Mifah around 7.30pm and opened fire on the unsuspecting villagers,” said Simon Iliya, a vigilante in neighboring Chibok.
“The villagers on hearing sound of gun shots scampered for safety but the attackers targeted the house of the village head and killed him. His name is Bila; they also killed two women while many people sustained injuries.
“They moved from house to house and ransacked food storages before setting many houses ablaze; the whole of Mifah has been deserted, the people including women and children who fled are taking refuge in Chibok and others have fled to Damboa,” he said.
Some security sources said the attackers were from the camp of Abubakar Shekau who lives around the Sambisa forest.
While there was no official statement by military on the attack, a community leader said, “It is unfortunate that the attack in Chibok is coming after series of attacks in recent days whereas the insurgents are said to have been decimated and degraded. We were made to believe that they cannot overrun communities but this is not true.”
