If your shoes often feel painful by the end of the day and you're
noticing unsightly bunions forming, it could well be because you've been
wearing the wrong shoe size for years.
Indeed, according to a recent study, nearly half of women in the UK are
wearing the wrong shoe size - and a third of 2,000 people asked readily
admit to wearing shoes that don't fit properly, revealed the College of
Podiatry.
Most people haven't had their feet measured since they were a child and simply attempt to figure out their own shoe size by trying a few pairs on in their favorite shop.
On the back of the research, Who What Wear created a clever guide to accurately measuring your feet to ensure you never have that problem again - and you might be surprised by your true shoe size.
1. Place a piece of paper on the floor.
2. Sit on a chair and place your foot on it (ensure you're on a hard, flat floor, rather than carpeted).
3. Use a pen or pencil to trace the outline of your foot.
4. Take a ruler and rule a perfectly straight line on each edge of your foot, so your toes, heel and each side of your foot.
5. Then use the ruler to measure between the two parallel lines on either side of your foot. Do this top to bottom, as well as side to side and write down the two numbers.
6. Subtract 3/16ths of an inch from each of the two numbers and use the chart below to calculate your true shoe size.
