Nigerians React After Photo of Gov. Wike’s “Special” Handshake Surfaces

On Monday, Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike, accused the Minister of Transportation and the immediate past governor of the state, Rotimi Amaechi, of forming a new cult group with the aim of creating security crisis in the state.

A ‘No-chill’ Nigerian Who allegedly wants to prove the Governor wrong digged up a photo of the governor’s “controversial” handshake with a young man right on stage of an event​ to mark #RiversAt50 Jubilee celebration.

The governor was captured in a “claw” handshake, which some have said is one of the ways of greeting a fellow cult member. Nigerians are now insinuating that the Governor may be part of a cult group.

Mr. Wike, a member of the Peoples Democratic Party, who was sworn in as governor on May 29, 2015, has been having a running political battle with Mr. Amaechi, his predecessor and member of the All Progressives Congress.

According to a statement by his media aide, Simeon Nwakaudu, the governor said the cult group formed by the minister was christened “New Rivers Cult Group.”

The governor also alleged that Mr. Amaechi inaugurated the group at a private residence in Woji area of Port Harcourt, the state capital after which he (minister) distributed N500, 000 to its members from each of the 23 local government areas.
