Baptist Convention Speaks Up About EFCC's Recent Discoveries...You Won't Believe What It Had to Say

The Nigerian Baptist Convention has spoken out about the recent discoveries made by the EFCC, of monies stashed away in private apartments.

EFCC discovery

The Nigerian Baptist Convention has described the recent money claimed to be discovered by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, through the whistle-blowing policy in its ongoing war against corruption in the country, as laughable.

Accoridng to Vanguard, the convention made the statement yesterday.

Recently, the commission claimed to have intercepted an undeclared sum of N49 million at the Kaduna International Airport, as well as over N13 billion cash in local and foreign currencies in a four-bedroom apartment in Ikoyi, Lagos, without ascertaining the ownership.

The President, FCT Baptist Conference of the  Nigerian Baptist Convention, Rev. Israel Akanji, stated this at a press conference on the 104th  Annual Session of the Nigerian Baptist Convention with the theme; Moving Forward; Overcoming the Challenges of Life through Jesus Christ, to be held at the National Stadium in Abuja.

Akanji admonished the anti-graft agency to display some level of professionalism in handling some of its discoveries, adding that rushing to the media without ascertaining the claims made mockery of their efforts, thereby portraying the nation in bad light.

“Before they start making pronouncements, they ought to verify their claims so that they will not damage the image of innocent people.”

‘’Therefore, EFCC should work with a very high work ethic that should guide their pronouncements.

“They should be slow to speak, they should be quick to listen; there is that warning in the bible. Listen well but then speak slowly. Make sure you have digested and ingested what you are trying to say out and you have verified the facts.

“In the modern world, for money to just be dropped in the airport and for it not to be traceable is laughable. What are we making of our praise in technology? Nigeria has some of the most brilliant people, even in the western world technologically, so why not using CCTV apparatus to trace the people who dropped such things?"
