The players were taken aback
A video has shown the moment play was stopped between the Ivory Coast and Senegal after a player was rugby tackled by a pitch invader as raging fans burst onto the field and confronted players.
Spectators jumped fences to breach security before violence in the terraces boiled over onto the turf, which forced the referee into abandoning the match after 88 minutes.
Senegal's Lamine Gassama was attacked by a pitch invader
The shocking image of Senegal star Lamine Gassama appearing to be hauled to the ground reflects the carnage that took place in the Stade Sebastien Charlety in Paris.
Referee Tony Chapron sensed danger and sent the international stars to the dressing room for safety.
The terrible scenes ruined a friendly match which saw Liverpool’s Sadio Mane give Senegal the lead from the penalty spot.
Cyriac Gohi Bi equalised for the Ivory Coast moments later in 70th minute.
Spectators burst onto the field as security tried stopping them
This is not the first a match between the two nations has finished early, after an African Nations Cup play-off fixture was abandoned in 2012.
Similarly, crowd trouble was the issue on this occasion as well.
Spectators threw missiles, stones, bottles and firecrackers as riot police had to use tear gas to diffuse the rioting.
