Nigerian Army kills two Boko Haram fighters in Mafa, destroys hideout

Troops of the Nigerian Army have killed two Boko Haram fighters at Gujari village in Mafa local government in the early hours of Monday, March 20.
The Army said announced this in a statement released on Monday, saying that the insurgents were killed as they were planning to attack some communities in that area of the northeast.

The statement signed by Army spokesman Brigadier-General Sani Usman Kukasheka said several weapons were recovered from the terrorists whose colleagues fled the scene with gunshot wounds.

It read: “Troops of 22 Brigade Nigerian Army on Operation LAFIYA DOLE have during a fighting patrol earlier today, cleared Boko Haram out of Gujari village, Mafa Local Government Area of Borno State.
“This followed an information about the convergence of the terrorists at area aiming to launch attack on some of the nearby communities.
“During the operation, the troops neutralized 2 Boko Haram terrorist while an unspecified number escaped with gunshot wounds into thick forest.
“At the location, the troops discovered and destroyed a tailoring shed. They also recovered 1 Rocket Propelled Grenade Bomb, 3 DaneGuns, 1 Double Barrel Pump Action Gun, 2 Bandoliers, 23 Empty cases of Shilka Gun Ammunition, 2 Initiation water container and 1 Motorcycle battery. Others include 1 Search light, 4 Knives, 1 Solar Panel, 2 Jerrycans of 25 Litres of Automated Gas Oil, a Sewing machine and 12 Food flasks, as well as food items, soft drinks, pairs of women's shoes and several clothing items."

This comes just a day after no fewer than seven people died in suicide bomb attacks on Umarari village in Molai general area at the outskirts of Maiduguri, the Borno State capital.
In the attacks that occurred on Saturday, March 18 evening, three suicide bombers and four others, including a mother and her two children were killed, says Police and National Emergency Management Agency.
Eight other people sustained injuries and were taken to the hospital.
