- The Fulani herdsmen had allegedly killed a farmer who had earlier consistently complained about their activities
- The indigenes of the community engaged in a reprisal attack which left three Fulani herdsmen dead
An
attack by Fulani herdsmen on Yakira, a community in Baruten local
government area of Kwara state, has left four people dead and many
others injured.
Vanguard reports that the herdsmen were on
reprisal following the killing of three of their colleagues in
retaliation to the killing of an indigene of the community.
It
was learnt that the indigene, whose death allegedly resulted in the
killing of the herdsmen, had complained about incessant grazing of
cattle on his farm.
He was later found dead in the farm.
Alhaji Musa Buge, the chairman of the transitional implementation committee for the council, has confirmed the killings.
He,
however, explained that normalcy had been returned to the area and that
arrangements were ongoing to have a security meeting of the council to
work out a way to forestall future re-occurrence.
The police public relations officer for
the Kwara state command, Ajayi Okasanmi, confirmed the killings but
could not give the casualty figure.
According
to him, the commissioner of police in the state, Olusola Amore, had
ordered an investigation into the incident with a view to bringing the
culprits to book.
