There is no plan to scrap NYSC - Scheme's DG declares

- There have been calls for the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) scheme to be scrapped following different incidents of deaths
- Those calling for the scheme to be scrapped argue that it has overstayed its aim, but the government has often kicked against this
The director-general of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), Brigadier-General Zuleman Kazaure has reacted to the speculation that the federal government was planning to scrap the scheme saying it is not true.

NYSC DG says there is no plan to scrap the scheme
Represented by the Director of Mobilisation, Chief Frank Ekpunobi, Kazaure disclosed this at Issele-Uku, Delta state, during a visit to an NYSC camp.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Kazaure said the speculation the scheme is to be scrapped was borne out of ‘poverty of information’ adding that the scheme is very important since it is a stop-gap to differentiate between fantasy and reality.

Kazaure recalled that the scheme was created after the three years of the civil war with the sole aim of national integration.
According to him, since its creation, NYSC had performed wonderfully in the areas of education, healthcare delivery and increased literacy as there is nowhere in Nigeria currently that one does not find corps members rendering services to their fatherland.
He advised the corps members to stay in their places of primary assignment, avoid unnecessary traveling and worked hard to bag awards.
In his speech, the coordinator of NYSC in Delta state, Mr Benjamin Omotade, noted that camping activities went on smoothly adding that agencies including the police have cordial relationship with the camp officials.

He disclosed that staff of the Federal Medical Centre (FMC) in the state were at the camp rendering medical assistance to the corps members.
