- FG plans to use creative industry to boost Nigeria's ailing economy
- Governor Akinwunmi Ambode of Lagos state commends the industry and reinstates his government's effort to assist the industry

The
Lagos state governor Akinwumi Ambode has promised to focus on the
development of the cultural and creative sector as he believes there are
potentials in the industry.
He stated on Friday, January 27, 2017, at
Eko Hotel during the first Lagos Art Expo, that the boundless energy and
creativity that many practitioners exude make it wise to invest more in
the area.
The governor gave assurance that his government will pay more attention to the sector.
“I am highly impressed by the quality
of the performances and the artworks on display here tonight. Part of
our commitment to the development of the industry is the six cinemas we
are building across the state. I am convinced that arts is the real
future of Lagos.”
The
minister of Information and Culture, Alhaji Lai Mohammed who was also
at the event described Lagos state as the hub of the creative sector in
Nigeria. He noted that the creative industry has a key role to play in
the Federal Government’s economic diversification policy.
He
said the creative industry, which comprises film, music, all forms of
production, fashion, design, etc., was one of the sectors to be
leveraged upon in the government’s diversification efforts.
He said:
‘’We
need to create jobs, both skilled and semi-skilled, formalise all
aspects of these industries, make them export products and help to
promote and participate in infrastructure development that will enhance
the sector and people’s lives. We cannot achieve this without Lagos
State. With its over 20 million people, Lagos is the home of the
creative sector.’’
Present at the event
were art collector and patron, Prince Yemisi Shyllon, former governor of
Ogun state, Aremo Segun Osoba among others.
