UKTN, in partnership with Wirex, the leading digital payment platform, are looking forward to this year’s ‘Rising Women in Crypto Power List’. Now in its second year, the list recognises the ten most inspirational women making a difference in crypto, and are inviting people to nominate themselves, colleagues, or friends for a spot on the 2021 list.

 

What is the Rising Women in Crypto Power List?

The tech sector is male dominated, and despite great strides in recent years, women are still under-represented. The list helps to redress that imbalance, identifying and celebrating the women who lead in the crypto sector. The list helps not just to celebrate and give a platform to those who are succeeding today, but also to offer inspiration for the female founders, innovators, and leaders of tomorrow.

 

The inaugural list was published last year. Attracting over 350 nominations from around the world, with diverse backgrounds and roles, the list highlighted the enormous role that women play in the crypto sector. The final list included names like Christina Lomazzo, UNICEF’s blockchain lead, Professor Tonya Evans, from Penn State’s Dickinson Law School, and Simone Maini, the CEO of crypto compliance service Elliptic. It is part of Wirex’s ‘Women in Crypto’ initiative, a year-round commitment to gender diversity, which supports Wirex’s mission to empower everyone to have access to the benefits of crypto.

 

The whole programme is run and managed by the women employed at Wirex and features a series of events to provide a platform for women in the crypto sector. Wirex have also been doing their bit by promoting diversity from within. Jenny Kong has recently been appointed as their Global Head of Marketing, and Diana Carrasco-Vime has also been appointed as a non-executive director. Female Wirex staff members also feature regularly in gender diversity events and programmes like the European Women in Payments Network.

 

Nominations for the 2021 list are open from 24th September, and the nomination period will run alongside a series of events and content produced by Wirex. The opening of nominations is being marked with a livestream event.

 

Taking place from tech accelerator, Level39 at 5pm on 24th September — during London Tech Week — ‘Women in Crypto: Tech, Innovation and Digitisation’ will highlight not just women in tech and crypto, but the effect they are having in shaping the sector. Six female crypto leaders will offer quick-fire presentations in which they will offer their unique insights on the industry and the technologies that are shaping the future.

 

Throughout the nomination period, Wirex will also be publishing content on their blog to promote the list, aimed at both educating and exciting people about the opportunities for women in the sector. The content will take advantage of Wirex’s position as a crypto leader to offer advice to women, as well as challenging some of the stereotypes that can hinder gender diversity and even discourage women from entering the sector.

 

The programme will include a ‘Your Money Matters’ series, which will offer financial advice and tips from industry insiders. It will also have articles from last year’s Power List winners offering thought-leadership and insight as part of a follow-up on their year since being named to the 2020 Power List.

 

The final list will be selected from all the nominations received by a to-be-announced panel of highly respected judges.

 

How to nominate someone for the list

Any woman working in crypto can be nominated. Whether they are just starting out on their career or are a crypto veteran, and regardless of background and role, the judges are keen to get nominations that reflect the diversity of women working in crypto. Women can nominate themselves, or anyone can nominate a colleague, peer, or friend for a position on the list.

The panel will judge the nominations against a range of criteria, including the achievements they have made and the potential they have, the influence and leadership they wield, and the ambition and innovation they bring to the sector.
