Police ban Anambra politicians, others from using sirens

The Anambra Police have banned politicians and other unauthorised persons in the state from using sirens.
Also prohibited is the covering of number plates by unauthorised persons.
The state Commissioner of Police, Mr. Garba Umar, disclosed this on Monday at a press briefing in his office at Amawbia, Awka South Local Government Area of the state.
He said only hospital ambulances on duty, the state governor, banks conveying money and police officers on duty were authorised to move with sirens. Umar said any unauthorised persons caught using sirens would be arrested and made to face the full wrath of the law, no matter how highly placed.
The CP said, “The command wishes to warn and remind the general public on the ban of incessant use of siren, and covering of number plates as anyone caught violating such laws will be arrested and dealt with decisively.”
Umar added that sequel to the directive of the Inspector-General of Police, Ibrahim Idris, on the withdrawal of police personnel attached to VIPs, government officials, political office holders, corporate organisations, multinational companies, the Anambra State Command would commence the enforcement of the order on April 20.
He said those who would want to have police personnel should apply to his office for consideration.
The CP said, “Henceforth, all new application/request in respect of the services of police mobile men; Special Protection Unit; Counter Terrorism Squad; and Conventional Police, must be processed and submitted to the Office of the Commissioner of Police, Anambra State Police Command Headquarters, Awka, who will forward all applications to the Inspector-General of Police for approval.”
